We always recommend that any new owner consider microchipping their cat or dog or rabbit, just in case the worse
were to happen. The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and it's inserted using a special syringe into the
scruff of the animal's neck, where it remains for the animal's lifetime. It sits underneath the skin and does not
hurt the animal. The chip is read using an electronic reader, and the microchip's reference number is linked to a
central database which holds all the owner's contact details. It's vital that these are updated whenever the owner
moves home. If the animal is ever lost, the chip can be used to find the owner. Certain types of chip can also be
used to take the animal's temperature. By using a microchip, you are far more likely to be reunited with your pet
should he or she ever wander too far from home. Please speak to your veterinary surgery if you would like to find
out more about microchipping your pet.
